Samantha Giordano-Mooga, PhD

Dr. Samantha Giordano-Mooga, PhD is an Assistant Professor and Director of Undergraduate Research in the Biomedical Sciences program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). With a PhD in Pathology and a strong background in biomedical science, she has dedicated her career to advancing undergraduate education and mentoring the next generation of researchers.
Originally from Staten Island, New York, Dr. Giordano-Mooga discovered her passion for teaching and mentorship during her early academic career. While initially considering medical school, her experience as a teaching assistant ignited a deep interest in guiding students through research and discovery, leading her to pursue a career in academia.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of physiological and psychological health, including work focused on stress, student well-being, and their biological underpinnings. She is also an advocate for educational equity, having created programs that provide accessible test preparation support for students pursuing professional health careers.
